Orange Walk Town is the fourth largest town in Belize. Locals refer to the area as "Sugar City" thanks to the production of Sugar in the area. It is home of a distillery that produces local rum using local ingredients including coconut.
Getting to Orange Walk Town is considerably easy using public transport. But for larger groups or family, booking a shuttle can be more convenient and time-saving.
A private transfer service gives you and your friends a few benefits including:
- comfort of having pitstops for restroom or food
- privacy for you and your group
- ability to customize your trip and stop at any time
- social distancing compared to public bus
- personalized service from a local guide
The highway that leads to Orange Walk from Belize City may not be scenic like the road in Southern Belize but it is unique. Upon entering the district, the first landmark will be the sugar cane factory known as Belize Sugar Industries (BSI). Thereafter, sugar cane will take over the highway sides. If you enjoy sugarcane, you'll find them sprinkled along the roadsides and mounted on the trucks for crop seasons.
Having Orange Walk as your home base for a day is a good idea if you plan on visiting Lamanai Archeological Site. It's the second largest Mayan Ruin in the country only after Caracol. Orange Walk is also home to over 400 species of birds, howler monkeys and other wildlife.
Other activities in the area include trying the local Orange Walk tacos, visiting Honey Camp Lagoon, trying the local rum, eating ceviche & salpicon, going birding to Rio Bravo Area and taking a day trip to Crooked Tree Village.
